The gastrointestinal tract comprises biota, which are critical to the normal functioning of the digestive system, and their alterations can be harmful. Different diseases may affect the tract caused by microorganisms affecting each part of the track. In the mouth, tooth and gum infections result in tooth decay or dental caries, which is recognized as the most infectious disease of human beings. The main sources of tooth decay include streptococcus and alpha-hemolytic streptococcus mutans. Other diseases under this category include the mumps or swelling of salivary glands, gastritis, and gastric ulcers caused by Helicobacter pylori. Acute diarrhea may be accompanied with or without vomiting passed through contaminated food. Different causing agents can be attributed to acute diarrhea, including shigella, salmonella, vibrio cholerae, campylobacter, Shiga-toxin-producing E.coli (STEM), other E.coli, and Clostridioides difficile, among others.

There is also Acute diarrhea with vomiting caused by exotoxins or food poisoning. Causing agents include; Bacillus cereus exotoxin, clostridium perfringens, and Staphylococcus aureus exotoxins. There is also chronic diarrhea, denoted by lasting longer but less severe than acute diarrhea. This is caused by; Enteroaggregative E.coli (EAEC), Cyclospora: C. cayetanensis, Giardia and entamoeba. Another disease is Hepatitis, an inflammatory infection that disrupts the liver’s functioning. Hepatitis is caused by hepatitis A, B, and C viruses, i.e., HAV and HBV for Hepatitis A and B, respectively.

On the other hand, there are gastrointestinal tract diseases caused by Helminths. These are characterized by their low aspect on virulence factors but high ability to persist on the host. Helminth disease, denoted by a patient feeling distress in the intestines tape and roundworms, can infect the intestines to cause primary symptoms. The infection can also be caused by enterovirus, vermicular, Trichuris trichiura, Diphyllobothrium latum, and hymenolepis species. The disease can also include intestinal distress along with migratory symptoms. The disease affects the intestines tissue as they move from the intestines to other parts, such as the circulatory system, and back to the intestines. Migratory Helminth can b caused by toxocara, ascaris lumbricoides, necator americanus and ancylostoma duodenale (Hookworm).
