Being in a professional nursing organization helps build connections and networking among nurses in the same specialty or practice as you as well as just personal development as a nurse in terms of keeping up with what is new in the nursing field. Nursing is always evolving in the sense that science is always becoming more advanced and developed and new research regarding different medical topics is always being made. “Joining an organization can lead to personal growth, enhanced professional prospective and knowledge development, and support for creating change” (Cline, 2019). National Association of Orthopedic Nurses (NAON) is a professional organization created in1980 used to educate practictioners and promoting research within the realm of orthopaedic nurses and groups with similar interested. Through an annual meeting event as well as events found within local chapters, podcasts, and webinars, the organization seeks to educate members on what is new in the orthopedic realm and what is going on in terms of new research and science.

Nursing organizations allow important issues in nursing to be addressed and allow nurses to stay current on pending legislation that directly or indirectly relates to them (Helbig et al., 2022). It allows nurses to come together to address important issues that may affect their license, practice and health care in general (Helbig et al., 2022). The main goal of these organizations is policy advocacy and advance patient care and outcome (Chiu et al., 2021).Overall goal of nursing organizations is to acknowledge issues together and bring it up to legislation to help enforce these changes through bills. Nursing organizations relate to patient care because issues being brought up may be regarding patient care issues.

There are never ending lists of nursing organizations that nurses can join, ranging from specialties to locations and much more. The organization that I chose is National Student Nurses’ Association (NSNA) because as a student nurse, this organization related to me the most. Members are informed through meetings at their schools, annual conferences and a magazine of updates that go out five times a year (NSNA, n.d.). The organization also offers career development activities, job opportunities and leadership activities at their conferences (NSNA, n.d.). Overall, the goal of this organization is to mentor future nurses and set them up for success.
